Mail config for using external mail server
I have been playing with this but it's not working so far... Here is the config.
I have a domain let's call test.com I have this domain hosted on my server, but I'm using an external mail server for this domain that the client runs at his office. The dns is hosted offsite as well and is setup properly with the mail.test.com pointing to his server. Everything works fine unless I send mail to test@test.com from my server, my mail server still thinks it's hosting the mail for test.com. I have been playing with the dns entries on my dns server and made them match the ones I'm using on the external site, but still the same thing happens. How do I tell the mail server locally to use an external mail server for this domain only? Thanks in advanced for the help... p.s. How come there is no one here anymore? Is there another site for servercp? |

Re: Mail config for using external mail server
I figured it out, it was a local dns issue.

Re: Mail config for using external mail server
Thanks Jeremy.... I guess I was actually talking to you since you are the one who helps everyone around here. (thank you btw)
It was an issue of the DNS propagating in the end. There is an option to use an external mail server in the servercp control panel, so I did that first of course, then I changed the local DNS record even though this domain uses DNS servers at another location. After that propagated correctly, everything works fine. I was thinking that since the DNS server on my machine was local it would not need time to propagate.... errrrrrrrrr well it looks like it did. All is well now. ![]() |
