what ports need to be open

The inbound ports for the services that dsm installs are below. You can block ports as you see fit to restrict access.

21 = ftp
22 = ssh - Can be blocked/restricted using ssh manager interface.
25 = smtp
26 = secondary smtp
53 = bind (dns)
80 = http
110 = pop3
143 = imap
443 = https
993 = imaps
995 = pop3s
3000 = dsm - Can be changed in the /etc/dsm.conf file.
3500 = dsms - Can be changd in the /etc/dsm.conf file.
3306 = mysql
5432 = postgres
