I've got the misfortune to have the works website hosted on a server using dsm version v2.0r160 which has old versions of phpmyadmin and mysql (older than my source server that I'm trying to migrate from).
Whats the easiest way to get mysql/phpmyadmin upgraded to newer versions (the old ones are phpadmin 2.3 and mysql 3.23.58) I was hooping to get the hosting company to upgrade but they seem to be extremely reluctant to do this and the php software installation from the software packager also seems to be pretty old.

Can't you just download phpmadmin and install it. It is very easy.

You'd have thought so - I tried several times to install it but it wouldn't work, giving various error messages. As it turns out the hosting company doesn't want to work with me any more as I was asking too many difficult questions (like getting dsm / mysql upgraded).
