DSM was just installed...

Everything is working just fine apart from FTP

[root@42 init.d]# ./proftpd start

- Fatal: error processing configuration file '/etc/proftpd.conf'

Also ive tried updating and as you see force starting it but no good.

Can anyone help me with an answer

your server name differs from your host name. Change it in your /etc/hosts file.
172.0.0.1 servername

ok i did that and it completely messed up DSM so FTP wouldn't work now NOTHING works

Nothing in DSM depends on the /etc/hosts file so therefore you probably did not modify the correct file. Send in a support request and we will take alook.
