Ok, here is the story:

I currently have a dedicated box with host1 and just bought a box with host2 and installed DSM on that one. I am setting up the sites and moving all the files and databases to the box at host2 and changing the dns records on host1 to point to the new IP. This is working perfectly.

When done with all moves, will I just change ns1.mysite.com and ns2.mysite.com with my registrar to point to the new ip on host2? Did typing in ns1.mysite.com and ns1.mysite.com in the DSM setup page complete the name server setup on the new box, or is there more steps I need to take?

Thanks!

You should create a records within your dns manager for nameserver entries.

Ok, web box move has been completed. I have all my old DNS zones pointing to my new IP and everything works.

However, I went to change my name servers with my registrar to my new web box and when I do a nslookup on a domain using the new box IP I get a server failed message. It seems as though the name servers are not working. Is there anything special I need to do to have my DSM box act properly as a name server for the primary domain on it? I created the A records and BIND seems to be running. I will open a ticket with this information as well, but if anyone here can help in the meantime, I'd appreciate it.

If you mail me at emek@mikropro.com with the domainname and the detailed IPs (old and new), I will try to help you...

I have just completed a work like yours with 100+ domains and with different DNS names...

See you..

The problem was the named was running under a chrooted environment. We will have chroot support for named available for dsm soon.

and that I am no where near a linux expert and it was a out of the box Fedora Core 3 install :)

But as usual, Zervex support was great and fast. I especially didnt expect such a fast response being a holiday weekend.

Ok, I am now having DNS issues yet again. I haven't noticed it for a while, but I think it may have went back to the chrooted method when I updated the server and dns was updated.

Anyone able to help me out getting it working again? All existing records at that time are working(DSM helped me) but anything added since is not resolving.

modify your /etc/sysconfig/named file by commenting out the chroot line.
#ROOTDIR="/var/named/chroot

Thanks LeeJ, I'll go do that right now.

I have to say Zervex support is always great and I appreciate it, I'll never stop using DSM.
