View Full Version : Found out that you have to tie your IP to eth0

This is just a note to others as some kind of historical record. I don't think this matter is addressed elsewhere.

I was having a lot of problems getting DSM to use the right IP address when creating sites. We have three NICs in our server (one for our internal private network, one for Internet, and one for fail-over). Guess what? DSM doesn't care about the IP apparently, just what is assigned to eth0.

Plain goofy.

Anyway, if you are having problems with getting the right IP working under DSM then make sure you use eth0 for the IP your registered with them. I actually talked to a tech. at Zervex about this and he almost seemed surprised that I questioned this issue.

What control panels have you used in the past?

Everyone that I have used must have the primary ip bound to eth0 or you end up having weird things happen when creating accounts and stuff.

What is goofy about that?

I would of been suprised also if you asked me that question. :-)

Sorry, but it's goofy to tie the site management to a specific network card. It would be one thing to say that you want to bind DSM and any management to the IP address. That makes sense. But not to the actual network interface. Naturally, if an interface has the IP address you are using then DSM uses that interface, but let the OS make that mapping and not the software.

Thanks.
